Arab Occupations Classification
Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Occupational Classification is to be seen as one tool for the assessment of the development of labor markets. The updating of the Arab Occupation Classification (AOC) represents one important key pillar which can contribute in developing the performance of Arab Labor markets and achieving their integration.

The updating of the Arab Occupational Classification was carried out during the first phase of the Regional Project that covers currently five Arab countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine). The draft version referring to the occupational classification in the five countries was handed over to the Arab Labor Organization in July 2008, who forwarded it to the other Arab countries for feedback and comments. On the occasion of the 36th meeting of the Arab Ministers of Labor in April 2009 in Amman, the final version of the AOC has been approved.

Due to the great importance of the AOC for the Labor market of the region the Arab Labor Organization is striving to encourage the application and usage of this classification in the Arab countries, whereas the GTZ supports the application of the AOC among its partner countries.
