Palestinian WorldSkills team participates in its first WorldSkills competition

WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, the world championships of vocational skills, has officially opened in the capital of the UAE, in a huge ceremony attended by more than 10.000 participants. The various WorldSkills competitions start officially today and span over a period of four days.
During WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, 1,300 competitors from across the globe will compete to be the very best in their chosen Skills. There will be competitions in 51 different Skills ranging from floristry to bricklaying; aircraft maintenance to mobile robotics.  Almost 60 WorldSkills Member Countries and Regions have entered teams to compete. WorldSkills Palestine is taking part in this competition for the first time since the first competition which took place in Spain 1950. The Palestinian contestant Ameen Bakr will compete in the category of painting and decoration and the other contestant, Ibrahim Al-Qawasmeh is competing in the graphic design category. Noor Awadah is participating also as an observer in the sweets and pastries category.
During the opining press conference, the Palestinian participation was well-acknowledged as one of the few Arab countries participating in this international event. Highlighting this participation, the Official Delegate of WorldSkills Palestine, Mr. Nidal Ayesh noted that  “WorldSkills is one of the biggest platforms for skills, which provides the opportunity to benchmark skills against the best in the world, such participation will help Palestine in developing this sector and it also reflects the strategic vision of the Palestinian government to develop this sector and promote skills”. Nidal concluded by wishing the team to have an amazing experience and to get good results.
The competitions at World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017 will continue for four days, the final results will be announced in a closing ceremony on Thursday 19 October 2017. Thanks to generous support provided by the German Government through GIZ, the participation of Palestine in the WorldSkills is being organized by the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (FPCCIA) in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Education and Higher Education and with the contribution of the Belgian Technical Cooperation and private sector organization.
