Palestinian Youth Celebrate the Youth World Skills Day in Palestine

Around 300 young Palestinian youth gathered on 17 July 2016 from different places across the West Bank to celebrate the Youth World Skill Day 2016 at Ramallah. The World Skills Day celebration in Palestine which is taking place for the first time after Palestine Joined the International Organization in 2015, was officially opened in attendance of the Palestinian Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Sabri Saidam and Nasser Qatami, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Labour, Ms. Rachel Folz from the German Representative Office in Palestine, Mr. Andreas Adrian , head of TVET and Employment Promotion Progrmme at the GIZ , Dirk Deprez , the Resident Representative BTC - Palestine, Mr. Khalil Reziq , the representative of the private sector in addition to students and supervisors from the Centers of Competence.
The Youth World Skills event aims at showcasing the value of skills and raising the recognition of skilled professionals in Palestine. The participating youth had the chance during this event to take part in a sample model of the career competition based on the world skills organization criteria's which focus on the quality of the TVET education and its role in the countries development. The event included various activities and competitions; five skills competitions were organized including tiling, fashion technology, pastry and sweets making, graphic design and painting and decoration in addition to a live quiz show at Raya FM, one of the most prominent radio station in the West Bank.
As part of the celebration event, the GIZ supported regional Sport for development programme (S4D), in partnership with the Palestinian foundation “Sports for Life”, organized some sports and educational exercises by a group of specialized and professional trainers who run different sport activities and competitions targeting the participating young beneficiaries. The implemented activities aimed at introducing youth to life skills such as teamwork, time management, communications, goal-orientation etc. as well as promoting the vocational and technical training and education amongst youth.
With the continuous support of GIZ, SDC and BTC ,the 2016 activities for Palestine skills, in particular the organization of this national Skills Competitions and TVET promotion, will continue to be implemented by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (FPCCIA) in collaboration with Palestinian Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
By the end of September 2016, a national-wide competition is scheduled to be conducted in order to select the national competitors who will represent Palestine in the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 Competition.
