TVET Week in Gaza – Transforming skills into Work! March 23 through March 26, 2015

Five Gazan institutions launch a united campaign to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Gaza, supported through the EU-financed programme “EU Support to TVET Sector in the Gaza Strip”

Under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Labour, five TVET institutions in Gaza – in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the European Union (EU), and the EYE Project/Islamic Relief – invite prospective students, the private sector, partners, and the interested public to an event entitled Open Days of Technical & Vocational Education and Training Institutions in Gaza.

In keeping with its slogan “TVET – Transforming skills into work!”, TVET Week Gaza aims to raise awareness among partners, the public, and the media in Gaza about TVET services and programmes in Gaza. The campaign highlights the importance of acquiring skills and transforming those skills into work in the Gaza Strip. The event further promotes TVET as a full-equivalent alternative to academic education, offering not only educational and career support but also opportunities for personal development.

TVET Week Gaza will be held from 23-26 May on TVET institutional premises in Gaza. The four-day event, the largest of its kind ever launched in Gaza, will bring together vocational training schools, industrial secondary schools, colleges, private training providers, and representatives from the private sector. For the first time, all TVET institutions in Gaza will jointly present information about their programmes, services, and training courses. The five institutions will open their facilities and their workshops so that visitors can see how training is conducted on real-life student projects. In addition, students will have the opportunity to talk with representatives of private companies.

The week’s activities will begin with the opening ceremony at the University College of Applied Sciences. The event will be opened by Mr. Ma’moun Abu Shahla, Minister of Labour, and Dr. Mohammad Al-Araj, Director General of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Activities will then continue at the various institutions, Palestine Technical College Dier Albalah, Gaza Secondary Vocational Girls’ School, Near East Council of Churches, and the Dier Albalah Industrial Secondary School.

TVET Week Gaza activities will be conducted on the premises of the respective TVET institutions as per the schedule below.
